Use the Expenditure Form to work out how much you are spending every week. This will outline how much money you need to pay your debts. You may be able to see areas where you can reduce your spending without causing your family hardship. Be realistic about the savings you can make.
Ways to reduce your spending
You may be able to reduce your spending by:
- setting up regular payments for bills (direct debits or standing orders),
- using meter cards or budget plans for electricity bills,
- contacting the Energy Efficiency Advice Centre to find ways to conserve energy,
- setting up your telephone to accept incoming calls only,
- walking instead of using transport.
Be careful about special offers as they can encourage you to spend more money. Be realistic about the savings you can make. How you decide to minimise your spending depends on your personal circumstances.
Use the budgeting tools in our Repossession and Mortgage debt advice section to get to grips with your finances. Prepare an income and expenditure sheet to see if you can make any savings.
