After your assessment the Housing Executive will send you a letter telling you your points total and a Personal Housing Plan.  This plan will contain information on the various housing options available to you and a summary of the discussion you had with the Housing Officer who carried out your assessment. The Housing Executive will place you on the waiting list for permanent accommodation in the areas you selected on your application form.

Waiting List

The Housing Executive can't tell you how many points you need for permanent accommodation, or your position on the housing waiting list. The length of time you wait for permanent accommodation depends on:

  • your points total,
  • your position on the waiting list,
  • when the type of accommodation you need becomes available in your chosen areas.

The Housing Executive and all housing associations use the same waiting list. Accommodation is usually given to the applicant with the highest points total in an area. If two or more applicants have the same number of points the person who has been waiting the longest will get the accommodation.

My points total is too low

Check how the Housing Executive awards points. You can complain if you think the Housing Executive has:

  • overlooked something that is relevant to your application,
  • not fully considered something that is relevant to your application.

You can complain to the Housing Executive about your points total if you are unhappy with how your application has been assessed.

My circumstances have changed

If your circumstances (or the circumstances of someone moving with you) have changed contact the Housing Executive. Contact the District Office dealing with your application. Tell the Housing Executive what has changed and ask for your situation to be reviewed. You can use the icon 'Change of Circumstances Letter' .

Tell the Housing Executive if you change address. You may be removed from the waiting list if you don't tell the Housing Executive when your circumstances change.

I want to change my area of choice

You may want to change your areas of choice if:

  • you have been offered accommodation in an area you don't want to live in anymore,
  • you are not being offered accommodation because of high demand in those areas.

Contact the Housing Executive District Office dealing with your application if you want to change your area of choice. Use the icon 'Area of Choice Letter'.
