A repairs grant is available to help cover the cost of carrying out repairs required after you local council has issued a Certificate of Disrepair or a Public Health notice.
Only landlords or some private tenants can apply for a repairs grant. You can get up to £7,500 depending on the type of work needed. Under current grants prioritisation scheme, new applications for repairs grants will be accepted and the scheme will continue to operate normally.
What work is included?
Repairs grants are aimed at helping you repair or replace existing items in your home, for example:
- eradicate damp
- repair a basic amenity like an inside toilet.
You can't get a repairs grant to provide a new amenity. For example, a repairs grant wouldn't be available if you wanted to install a new inside toilet.

You can start the work immediately and then ask the Housing Executive for a grant.
Certificate of disrepair
Your local council can serve a certificate of disrepair on a landlord, an agent and some private tenants.
