Staying in your home Print E-mail

Your safety and the safety of your family should be your main priority. You may decide that staying in your home after you have been intimidated is the best option. Get advice from the police before you do this.

Advice from the police

The police can give you help and advice on securing your home. Your local crime prevention officer can carry out a security survey and offer help and advice on what further measures to take.

Extra security measures

If you are over 75 and get housing benefit, income support or housing benefit rate rebate you may be able to get help from the Housing Executive to install extra security measures. You can get help from the Housing Executive if:

  • you own your home;
  • you rent from a private landlord;
  • you rent from the Housing Executive;
  • you rent from a housing association.

The Housing Executive can install new door and window locks, door chains and peep holes. For more information on the Locks for Older People scheme contact the Housing Executive.
