Your rights & responsibilities Print E-mail

When you rent privately, you have certain rights and responsibilities as a tenant. Likewise, your landlord has responsibilities towards you.

If you are unsure of your rights or your duties towards your landlord, get help from a housing specialist.

Your basic rights

There are a few basic rights all tenants are entitled to by law. Your tenancy agreement cannot take away your basic rights. More

Additional rights of tenants

If your tenancy began after 1 April 2007, you may have additional basic rights. Read this section to find out more about them. More

Your responsibilities

Tenants are responsible for paying rent and taking care of the accommodation. Your tenancy agreement may give you more responsibilities. More arrow.jpg
