If your tenancy began after 1 April 2007, you must be provided with a tenancy statement by your landlord within 28 days. If you haven't received this, contact your local council.
The tenancy statement should be provided in addition to the tenancy agreement and the rent book and must be provided free of charge.
I have no written tenancy agreement
You are still entitled to a tenancy statement if your tenancy began after 1 April 2007. This tenancy statement makes it easier to enforce certain repairing obligations in the absence of a tenancy agreement and makes it clear what your rights and responsibilities are under the tenancy.
Even if your tenancy agreement is verbal, you must get a tenancy statement in writing and it is an offence for your landlord not to provide you with this.

What should the tenancy statement contain?
The information your landlord must provide in the tenancy statement should include details such as:
- the address of the property;
- the name, address and contact details of the landlord;
- the tenancy start date;
- the tenancy duration;
- the rent payable and dates payable;
- the repairing obligations of the landlord and you;
- rates payable and whether this amount is included in the rent figure;
- notice to quit to be given by you and the landlord;
- any other payments beyond the rent (e.g. for heating);
- an inventory of furniture that is part of the tenancy agreement.
