You can still apply for public housing. This is housing provided by the NI Housing Executive or by charitable housing associations.
At the minute, the law says that only certain Europeans can get public housing. Usually, this means people who
- Are currently working
- Have worked in the past, but are not able to do so at the minute
- Have worked in the past, and are looking for a new job
- Are family members of another European person who is working or who has been working in Northern Ireland.
After Brexit this rule will stay the same.
But, if you get settled status this rule won’t apply to you anymore. You will be treated the same as a British or Irish person. You can apply for help even if you have never worked in the UK.
