Building guarantees

Your home may be under a builder's guarantee if it was built in the last 10 years. 

Most homes are under a builder's warranty for 2 years from the date it is handed over to the first owner. The builder should repair any serious or structural problems during that time. 

Builder warranty ends

Builders will usually sign up to a 10 year guarantee.

The two most common guarantee schemes are:

Ask the guarantee provider to inspect a fault in your home if the builder's warranty has ended. The guarantee can cover the cost of certain structural repairs. 

Your insurance may cover the cost of repairs if you can't claim on your warranty or guarantee.

Ask your solicitor about warranties and guarantees if you are buying a property that was built within the last 10 years.
